Announcements for the Arkansas Floral Trade

This page is a bulletin board for news relevant to the floral trade. Rather than scattering important information across newsletters, social feeds and meeting handouts, details are gathered here so readers can find what they need in one place and in the order they happened. Registration windows, competition entry deadlines, class availability, board nominations and professional milestones are posted here first. Anyone planning the year around a convention or design competitions can use this page as a starting point and check it again before mailing anything in.

What You Will Find Here

Announcements fall into a handful of recurring categories, and each one is posted as soon as the details are confirmed rather than held for the next printing of the newsletter:

Announcements
  • Convention and registration notices — dates, schedule changes, hands-on class openings, presenter introductions, and reminders about the deadline for the early registration rate.
  • Competition news — entry windows for the Mid-America Cup and the Arkansas Cup, competitor lists, rule clarifications, and results once the judges have finished.
  • Education and certification — class schedules, exam windows, and continuing education opportunities for designers and shop staff.
  • Governance — board nominations, committee appointments, election results, and notice of the annual business meeting.
  • Trade fair and vendor information — booth availability, vendor deadlines, and recognition of our in-kind sponsors.
  • Community and member news — shop openings and anniversaries, staff achievements, volunteer calls, golf tournament and contest updates, and in memoriam notices.

Submitting an Announcement

Readers may submit announcements about their own businesses, their staff, or an event they are hosting. Keep it short and factual: who, what, when, where, and any deadline or cost involved. A headline plus a single paragraph of body copy is almost always enough, along with a way for readers to get in touch. Items should be sent through the contact page at least two weeks before they are to appear. Genuine late-breaking news — a shop closing early for weather, a changed class time, a venue move — will be posted as quickly as possible. Submissions may be edited for length and clarity, and commercial solicitations, hiring notices and product pricing belong in the advertising program rather than in the announcement feed.

Printing Your Own Announcement Cards

When the news is your own — a new location, a design award, a change of ownership, a holiday open house — a printed card still carries weight. It can be handed across the counter, tucked into a delivery box, or pinned to the shop bulletin board. Ordinary copy paper is fine for a quick notice, but card stock holds up better and feels more finished in a customer's hand. These formats cover most of what a flower shop needs:

Announcements
  • 8.5 x 11 inches, flat — a full sheet for the door or window, or folded in thirds for mailing.
  • 10 x 7 inches folded to 5 x 7 — the classic hand-out card, available horizontal or vertical.
  • 7 x 5 inches folded to 3.5 x 5 — a small enclosure card sized for delivery boxes and thank-you notes.
  • 8.5 x 6 inches folded to 4.25 x 6 — fits a standard invitation envelope for a formal opening or anniversary.
  • 4.25 x 11 inches — a tall rack card or shelf strip for a seasonal promotion.

Whichever size you choose, print a proof on plain paper before committing to card stock. Check that the type is readable at arm's length, keep at least a quarter inch of clear margin inside every edge, and keep text away from the fold line so nothing is lost when the card is scored and creased.

Staying Informed

Major announcements are also repeated in the member newsletter and on our social channels, but this page is the record. Bookmark it, check it before you register for anything, and if you hear news that other Arkansas florists should know about, tell us — the strength of this Association has always come from members passing information along to one another.
